Kutná Hora Wine Cellars - Turistická oblast KUTNOHORSKO KOLÍNSKO

Kutná Hora Wine Cellars

The family winery was founded in 2002 by Mr. Stanislav Rudolfský. In 2005, his son Lukáš took over the company and has been leading it ever since. Together they set about restoring the lost glory of wine grape growing in the Kutná Hora region, whose tradition dates back to the 12th century.

Information

The legend of the discovery of silver in Kutná Hora speaks of the monk named Dominik who tripped over a silver bar while working in the vineyard. The history of silver mining and wine are therefore closely linked. The most important variety in this region is Pinot Noir, which was introduced by Emperor Charles IV. This variety is still thriving here after centuries and has become the flagship of the winery.

Pinot Noir is grown on all the vineyards, the most beautiful of which is the Pod Barborou Vineyard. Together with the St. Barbara’s Church and the Jesuit College, it forms one of the striking features of the historical centre of the town and has become one of the most photographed still lifes in all of Kutná Hora. The U všech svatýých Vineyard , where grapes are harvested from a vineyard that is more than 40 years old, also produces excellent Pinots. The winery farms 80 hectares of land, of which more than 40 hectares are vineyards. It is therefore the second largest winery in Bohemia. The remaining land consists of sheep pastures, orchards and fields. The long-term goal is to create a self-sufficient farm with organic products of the highest quality. The winery is certified as an organic producer and since 2014 it is the only winery in the Czech Republic and Slovakia certified with the prestigious DEMETER biodynamic agriculture label. In winemaking, work operations are subject to the phases of the moon, just as our ancestors did. Apart from agricultural activities, they are also involved in the development of the region. They co-organize the Harvest Festival and Vintage at Kačina Castle, the most important event in the region, St. Martin’s Feast, the Gastrofestival in Kutná Hora, which aims to become one of the largest events focused on organic food in all of Czech Republic and many others.

The winery is located in the beautiful premises of the monastery of St. Voršila in Kutná Hora. There is not only a wine cellar, but also two tasting rooms for small as well as large groups.
